Working in Finance

We’re responsible for all the strategic, commercial and operational aspects of Finance. At the highest level of our business this means setting out the overall financial picture of the company - in terms of forecasting what money we’ll make and what we’ll spend. And, of course, accurately accounting for what happens on a monthly and yearly basis - plus communicating our performance to the City and shareholders.

But there’s more, a whole lot more. Commercial Finance helps the business to understand its performance and helps key decision-makers to make the right calls around investments. Our Management and Financial accountants record every transaction that the business makes, producing reports and analysis of the data. Our Tax team handles our tax returns and payments. Forecasting, Planning and Reporting work across the business to set budgets and make sure we’re sticking to them. Our Risk team fully understand the risks we face as a business and manage them appropriately. That means looking ahead and acting fast. We also have our very important Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable and Banking teams, and, vitally, a Systems team that implements and manages all of the accounting systems that underpin every single thing we do.

So, across all these teams, what do we have in common? For one, you will need to be more than just comfortable with figures. You’ll have to be very comfortable with change. You’ll be confident managing competing demands and shifting priorities, and really owning it. There’s no hiding behind hierarchies here. We’re all driving this business forward together.

From Risk to Banking to Planning and Reporting. Having lots of specialists in the team means lots of learning and development opportunities. So it’s no surprise that we have such a strong track record of people moving within Finance. Because we don’t put people in boxes. You’re not defined by your role but by your potential. And as our entire Finance function is based in our Cheltenham Head Office, you’ll get to know everyone, right up to our CFO.
